Welcome to the CORE Group Global Health Practitioners Conference! Participants at CORE Group’s 2024 Global Health Practitioner’s Conference are invited to join exclusive site visits on Monday, October 28th, offering an up-close look at groundbreaking community health programs in Nairobi. These site visits provide a unique opportunity to engage with local experts, observe impactful health interventions in action, and gain valuable insights into real-world strategies addressing health challenges in Kenya.

Meeting Point: Please assemble at the Casino area near the main car park by 1:30 pm. CORE Group staff and a representative from the site organizer will accompany you to and from each location on the bus.

Explore the exciting site visits we have lined up below – each offering a unique, on-the-ground look at impactful global health initiatives in action:

Site 1: USAID Tumikia Mtoto Project (Organized by World Vision)

Location: Kangemi, Nairobi

Discover how the USAID Tumikia Mtoto Project empowers vulnerable children and adolescent girls in the Kangemi area. The project addresses the needs of orphans, vulnerable children, and adolescent girls at risk, providing critical services like HIV treatment, health education, and support for young women to overcome socio-economic challenges. Visit the local office, interact with health workers, and learn about World Vision’s approach to strengthening community health and resilience.

Site 2: Makadara Health Centre (Organized by Ministry of Health, Kenya)

Location: Maringo, Jogoo Rd, Nairobi

Explore this bustling public health facility in Nairobi’s Makadara area, where essential medical services are provided to the local community. Makadara Health Centre offers outpatient care, maternal and child health services, immunizations, and HIV counseling and testing. Witness how the facility serves as a pillar of primary health care, promoting access to essential services for Nairobi’s residents.

Site 3: Waithaka Health Centre | Sports for Health II Project (Organized by Amref)

Location: Dagoretti, Nairobi

Observe the transformative power of sports in promoting adolescent health. The Sports for Health II Project uses Taekwondo, football, and volleyball to provide adolescents with reproductive health education, life skills, and vocational opportunities. With a focus on reducing teenage pregnancies, new HIV infections, and gender-based violence, this project serves as a model for integrating physical activities with health education in underserved communities.

Site 4: She Soars Project (Organized by CARE International)

Location: Mwiki, Kasarani, Nairobi

She Soars is an outreach program dedicated to improving the reproductive health of out-of-school adolescents in the community. This site visit will provide insights into the integrated health services offered, including HIV testing, STI screening, family planning, and gender-based violence referrals. Attendees will learn about CARE International’s approach to reaching young people in need of reproductive health services in Nairobi.

Site 5: Pumwani Maternity Hospital Skills Lab (Organized by UNICEF)

Location: General Waruinge Street, Nairobi

Step into Kenya’s largest maternity hospital, where more than 120 deliveries are handled daily. The Skills Lab at Pumwani Maternity Hospital serves as a state-of-the-art training center for maternal and newborn care. With support from UNICEF, this lab equips health care providers with hands-on training, supporting quality care for mothers and newborns in Nairobi’s high-volume health facilities.

This vibrant site visit experience will enrich your understanding of community health interventions and demonstrate how partnerships drive positive change on the ground.
